Zirconia ceramic cold isostatic pressing, also known as CIP, involves applying static pressure produced by fluid or gas directly on the powder or blank in an elastic die sleeve using a high-pressure pump. This results in the pressing of the material under isotropic uniform pressure.

CIP technology is suitable for producing new alloy products that are difficult to manufacture using traditional casting methods. It is also an excellent forming process for zirconia ceramic and alumina ceramic products with high performance and strength requirements. CIP can be used to press parts with complex shapes, including concave, hollow, and slender parts.

Key advantages of CIP include low friction loss, low forming pressure, uniform density distribution, and high billet strength. Additionally, CIP offers cost savings in terms of mold expenses.

Cold isostatic pressing is further divided into wet isostatic pressing (WIP) and dry isostatic pressing (DIP). WIP involves encapsulating a pre-pressed blank in a flexible rubber or plastic mold, which is then placed in a high-pressure container for high-pressure liquid molding. The advantage of WIP is that the mold is submerged in high-pressure liquid, resulting in uniform density distribution of the blank.

On the other hand, DIP is commonly used for the production of wear-resistant ceramic blanks. For conventional alumina products, the dry press molding method is primarily used, while large-sized products are typically first formed using the dry press molding method and then undergo secondary molding through isostatic pressure. This process results in a smaller billet shrinkage, uniform billet density, and improved sintering stability.
