1. Dry pressing

 

Dry pressing uses pressure to press ceramic powder into a specific shape suitable for the body. The essence is that under the action of external force, the powder particles are close to each other in the mold, and are tightly combined through internal friction to maintain a specific shape. The main defect of dry-pressed green bodies is spalling. This is due to the internal friction between the powders and the friction between the powder and the mold walls, causing a pressure loss in the body.

 

The advantages of dry pressing are that the size of the green body is accurate, the operation is simple, and it is easy to realize mechanized operation. The green dry press machine has low water content and binder content, and small drying and firing shrinkage. It is mainly used for forming products with simple shapes and small aspect ratios. The increased production cost due to mold wear is a disadvantage of dry pressing.

 

2. Isostatic pressing

 

Isostatic pressing is a special molding method developed on the basis of traditional dry pressing. The pressure transmitted by the fluid is used to uniformly press the powder in all directions in the elastic mold. Due to the consistency of the internal pressure of the fluid, the powder is subjected to the same pressure in all directions, thus avoiding density differences in the briquette.

 

Isostatic pressing can be divided into wet bag isostatic pressing and dry bag isostatic pressing. Wet bag isostatic pressing machines can form products with complex shapes, but they can only work intermittently. The dry bag isostatic press can realize automatic continuous operation, but it can only form products with simple shapes such as square, round, and tubular cross-sections. Isostatic pressing can obtain a uniform and dense green body, with small firing shrinkage and uniform shrinkage in all directions, but the equipment is complicated and expensive, and the production efficiency is not high, and it is especially suitable for material production requirements.
