Oak Ridge National Laboratory Dixit et al. (2022) pointed out that isostatic pressing technology may become one of the necessary processes for mass production of solid-state batteries in the future. Isostatic pressing is based on Pascal's principle, using liquids and gases (such as water, oil or argon) inside the machine to exert a uniform pressure on the cell to produce a highly uniform material. However, this technology is still at the stage of cutting-edge accumulation. The difficulty lies in how to select the appropriate combination of pressing temperature and pressure, and how to control the texture of the pressing. There is still a certain gap between the production efficiency and yield and the existing mature technology. At present, only South Korea’s Samsung and other A handful of companies have successfully applied it.
