Polytetrafluoroethylene or PTFE is a commonly used multifunctional, high performance fluoropolymer consisting of carbon and fluorine atoms. Typical characteristics and properties of PTFE

PTFE is available in granules, fine powders and water-based dispersions.

 

Granular PTFE resins are produced by suspension polymerization in aqueous media with little or no dispersants. Granular PTFE resins are primarily used for molding (compression and isostatic pressing) and ram extrusion.

 

PTFE fine powder is prepared by controlled emulsion polymerization, and the product is white fine particles. Fine PTFE powder can be processed into flakes by paste extrusion or used as an additive to increase the wear resistance or friction properties of other materials.

 

PTFE dispersions are prepared by aqueous phase polymerization with more dispersant under agitation. Dispersions are used in coatings and film casting.
