Difference Between Rubber and Polyurethane
1. Different properties: Polyurethane is a polymer containing carbamate groups in the main chain of the polymer, called polyurethane. Polyurethane is divided into two categories: polyester polyurethane and polyether polyurethane.
Rubber is a highly elastic polymer material with reversible deformation. It is elastic at room temperature, can produce large deformation under a small external force, and can return to its original shape after the external force is removed. Rubber is a completely amorphous polymer. Its glass transition temperature (T g) is low, and its molecular weight is often large, greater than hundreds of thousands.
2. The composition is different: rubber is made of latex. Some of the non-rubber components in latex remain in the solid natural rubber. Generally speaking, natural rubber contains 92%-95% rubber hydrocarbons, while non-rubber hydrocarbons account for 5%-8%. The moisture content of dry glue is not more than 1%.
The main raw materials of polyurethane are organic polyisocyanates and hydroxyl-terminated compounds.
3. Different characteristics: the characteristics of rubber ① natural rubber has good wear resistance, high elasticity, tear strength and elongation; ② styrene-butadiene rubber is a low-cost non-oil-resistant material with good resistance Water-based, with good elasticity when the hardness is below 70, and poor compressibility when the hardness is high; ③Hydrogenated nitrile rubber has excellent corrosion resistance, tensile resistance, tear resistance and compression properties.
Polyurethane has the following characteristics: ① High mechanical strength and oxidation stability; ② High flexibility and resilience; ③ Excellent oil resistance, solvent resistance, water resistance and fire resistance.
High Industry Tech provide cold isostatic pressing bags for ceramics, graphite, carbide powders forming. With rich experience of tools and equipment in CIP,we developed isostatic pressing bag for various pressing process and different powder materials.
Compare to traditional rubber cold isostatic pressing bags, the polyurethane CIP bags have significant advantages. As a new polymer material, polyurethane products feature smooth surface, wearing-resistant, anti-fatigue, low deformation rate. The surface of pressed products with polyurethane bags is much smoother than that pressed with rubber bags, thus it possesses better looks and less postprocessing is required. It’s an ideal tool for powder material forming by press process, which can help a company reduce cost and increase efficiency.
