The Isostatic Pressing Process and Its Advantages
(1) Principle of isostatic pressing Isostatic pressing (isostatic pressing) is also called hydrostatic pressing. It is a molding method that utilizes the incompressibility of the liquid medium and the uniform transmission of pressure, that is, the pressure of the sample in the high-pressure container is the same as the pressure of the still water at the same depth, so it is called hydrostatic pressure or isostatic pressing. The molding process obtained according to this principle is called hydrostatic pressing, or isostatic pressing.
(2) Types of isostatic pressing Isostatic pressing technology can be generally divided into three types according to the temperature during forming and consolidation: cold isostatic pressing (CIP), warm isostatic pressing (WIP) and hot isostatic pressing (HIP). Due to the difference in temperature during isostatic pressing, the corresponding equipment, pressure medium and encapsulating mold material are used for the three isostatic pressing technologies respectively.
(3) Characteristics of isostatic pressing. As a forming process, isostatic pressing technology has the following advantages compared with conventional forming technology:
① The density of the compact is uniform.
②The density of the green body is high, which is generally higher than that of one-way and two-way molding. Due to the high density of the green body and the small shrinkage during firing, it is not easy to deform.
③ The green body formed by cold isostatic pressing has high strength and can be directly handled and machined.
④ The stress in the green body is small, which reduces the defects such as cracking and delamination of the green body.
⑤ Less or no binder can be used, which reduces the pollution to the product.
⑥ It can realize the forming of the green body near the net size, and reduce the processing cost and raw material waste.
