DESCRIPTION

Advantages of Ceramic Cold Isostatic Pressing

The cold isostatic pressing is an important technology for the production of technical ceramic products, and is particularly suitable for the manufacturing of advanced ceramic products with large dimensions. When compared to traditional molding technology, ceramic cold isostatic pressing technology has the following features as a molding method.

(1) Cold isostatic pressing is able to produce high-density ceramic parts. It is typically 5-15% higher than one-way and two-way pressing molding.

(2) The compact's density is uniform. Uneven density distribution of green compacts will exist in dry pressing, whether one-way or two-way pressing. When pressing ceramic components with complicated forms, this density difference may often exceed 10%. The frictional resistance between the powder and the steel mold causes this difference. Pressure is transmitted via the isostatic fluid medium, and it is equal in all directions. The compression of the rubber sleeve and the powder is about equal. The powder and the rubber sleeve do not move relative to one another. Because the frictional resistance between them is so low, the pressure decreases very little. The density decrease gradient is usually smaller than 1%. As a result, the green body's density is uniform.

(3) The product's aspect ratio is limited, which is ideal for the manufacture of ceramic rods, ceramic plates, and ceramic tubes with a relatively big sizes.

(4) The green body produced by cold isostatic pressing has a high density, a minimal shrinkage during sintering, and a high sintered density.

(5) The green body made by cold isostatic pressing is strong and can be transported and machined directly.

(6) Cold isostatic pressing has low internal stress, which minimizes green body defects like as cracking and delamination.

(7) The powder does not need the addition of lubricant, reducing pollution and simplifying the production process.

(8) As this green body can be molded into a near and net size, manufacturing cost and raw material waste are reduced.
