Molding Methods for Carbon Material Production

 

(1) Molding method.

This method is to use a vertical press to make a mold according to the shape and size of the product, and then put a certain amount of kneaded paste or pressed powder into the mold on the press table , start the press to apply pressure to the paste or pressed powder, and keep it for a certain period of time to make it shape, and then eject the pressed green from the mold. The molding method can be divided into one-way pressing and two-way pressing, hot pressing and cold pressing according to different processes and equipment conditions. Molding method is suitable for pressing products with small size in three directions and little difference in size in three directions, uniform density, compact structure and high strength, but the product has anisotropy, and is mainly used for the production of electrode paste, anode paste and various special Graphite products.

 

   (2) Extrusion method 

The extrusion method uses a horizontal extruder. First, put the paste into the material chamber of the press, and use the main plunger of the press to apply pressure to the paste. The paste is extruded through the nozzle installed in front of the material chamber, which is consistent with the cross-sectional shape and size of the product, and then cut with a cutter according to the required length, which is the extruded green embryo. The extrusion method is suitable for rods, pipes or other special-shaped products with relatively large L/D. The extrusion method can be used for continuous production, high production efficiency, simple operation, and high degree of mechanization, but the product has low volume density and mechanical strength, and is anisotropic. It is mainly used for the production of graphitized electrodes, carbon electrodes, and carbon blocks.

 

   (3) Vibration molding method 

Vibration molding is to put the paste into the mold placed on the vibration table of the vibration molding machine, and then place a heavy hammer on it, and use the high-speed vibration of the vibration table to make the paste dense and formed. . The structure of the vibration molding machine is simple, as long as a small molding pressure is applied to the paste, it can produce larger-sized products, especially suitable for the production of thick and short products with similar dimensions in the three directions of length, width and thickness, and some special-shaped products, such as Prebaked anodes, cathodes, carbon blocks, large or extra-large carbon electrodes and stacking worms.

 

   (4) Isostatic pressing method 

Isostatic pressing is completed in an isostatic pressure vessel. It puts pressed powder into an elastic mold made of rubber or plastic, seals it and puts it in a high-pressure vessel, and uses ultra-high pressure The pump injects high-pressure liquid medium (oil or water) to make the compressed powder pressurized and formed. Isostatic pressing includes cold isostatic pressing and hot isostatic pressing. Isostatic pressing can produce isotropic products and special-shaped products. The structure of the products is uniform, and the density and strength are particularly high. It is generally used to produce special graphite, especially for the production of large-scale special graphite products.
