Isostatic Pressing Bags/Molds/Toolings
Cold isostatic pressing technology is mainly used for molding powder materials at room temperature by using rubber or plastic as the envelope mold material, with liquid as the pressure medium, to provide blanks for further sintering or hot isostatic pressing process. Cold isostatic pressing technology is further divided into wet bag method and dry bag method.
Wet bag method isostatic pressing is the blank (or pre-pressure treatment in advance) encapsulated in an elastic plastic or rubber mold, sealed into a high-pressure cylinder, through the liquid transfer to the blank pressure molding. This method can change the shape and size of the plastic wrapper, the products are very flexible and suitable for small-scale production. However, manual bagging and unbagging operations are required each time, and the production efficiency is not high. This method is mainly used for the production of large, shaped parts.
Dry bag method of isostatic pressing is to semi-fixed elastic mold, not immersed in liquid medium, but through the upper and lower piston seal. The pressure pump injects the liquid medium between the high-pressure cylinder and the pressurized rubber, and the pressure is transferred through the liquid and the pressurized rubber to make the blank pressed into shape. This method can be operated continuously, i.e. open the top cover of the mold, load the material, then cover the top cover and press the molding, and when discharging the material, open the top cover and press the billet out from the top side by the top bar at the bottom. The operation cycle is short and suitable for batch production.
The cold isostatic forming process consists of three steps:
(1) With the help of a high-pressure pump, the fluid medium is pressed into a high-pressure resistant steel sealed container, and the hydrostatic pressure of the high-pressure fluid acts directly on the powder inside the elastic die sleeve.
(2) The powder is uniformly pressed in all directions at the same time, resulting in a high strength press billet with uniform density distribution.
(3) The molded part is removed from the mold by unloading the pressure. Hot isostatic pressing is a process in which isostatic pressure is applied at high temperatures. The method can also be sintered at the same time to produce near completely dense materials and workpieces.
Compare to traditional rubber cold isostatic pressing bags, the polyurethane CIP bags have significant advantages. As a new polymer material, polyurethane products feature smooth surface, wearing-resistant, anti-fatigue, low deformation rate. The surface of pressed products with polyurethane bags is much smoother than that pressed with rubber bags, thus it possesses better looks and less postprocessing is required. It’s an ideal tool for powder material forming by press process, which can help a company reduce cost and increase efficiency.
Durability and deformation rate are factors that users care most. A long working life of pressing bag can reduce cost and increase production efficiency, while low deformation rate of the bag will enhance precision and yield of products. By close cooperation with material suppliers and great mass of manufacturers of carbide, ceramics and graphite products, we accumulated a lot of experience in this industry and become a well-know supplier of CIP bags.
