The production of fine-grained, homogeneous high-density graphite or isotropic graphite is often produced by isostatic pressing. Isostatic pressing is divided into two types, namely liquid isostatic pressing with liquid as the pressure transfer medium and gas isostatic pressing with gas as the pressure transfer medium. Gas isostatic pressing is generally carried out in a heated state (mainly used in the powder metallurgy industry), and the production of carbon products is mainly formed by liquid isostatic pressing.

The basic principle of liquid isostatic pressing is to follow PASCAL's law in fluid mechanics, that is, in a closed container filled with liquid, the pressure applied to any point in the fluid must be transferred to any part of the container with the same value. Isostatic pressing process is to press the required powder material into an elastic mold, and the mold mouth is tied tightly, the mold with material is placed in a high-pressure container, and then the high-pressure container entrance is tightly sealed. The pressurized medium is generally transformer oil, and the transformer oil is injected into the high-pressure container with the ultra-high pressure pump to pressurize the mold evenly. The pressure in the container can rise to 100 ~ 600MPa. After maintaining a certain period of time, the pressure is gradually reduced, the medium is discharged, the container is opened, the mold is unloaded, and the green billet is obtained from the mold. Further heat treatment (roasting, graphitization) and mechanical processing to obtain the desired finished product.
